Letter to the Editor
Remember, letters to the editor express opinions about issues that affect your community. Your letter should describe how the issues in your school have affected your life and the lives of your friends.
Start by saying your reasons for writing. Build your case by sharing personal stories, research, and facts that help you make your point. Be sure to include a "call to action" like having people sign up on Students Taking Charge--call your principal--or help out at the school garden. And, finally, end with a strong positive statement about how your group is making a difference.

Steal These Ideas
Brainstorming as a school
Sometimes a group of 6 or 8 students can have hard time deciding how to make their school a healthier place. While surveys, interviews, and focus groups can all help, one school in Kansas decided to bring their whole student body together for two Students Taking Charge forums.
Seeing is believing
Are you getting a lot of resistance from your principal or school nutrition director? Does it seem like you're just not speaking their language? Or do they not understand what your changes will really look like? Find out how Northampton High School took their school leaders to visit another high school that has already put their ideas into action!
