Writing a Press Release

What are the keys to a successful press release?

  • Keep it simple and factual
  • The first paragraph should be no more than three sentences and include the who, what, when, and where of your group.
  • The second and third paragraphs should add more details like the why and how of what you are doing.  This is where you can put quotes from teachers, classmates, or others who are involved in the project.
  • The final paragraph should have contact information.

If you have some photos, include them in the press release with a suggested caption.  Even if you don't get a full story, you may see your face on the front page of your local newspaper.
