Group Leader Center
Are you a student leader who wants a healthy and active school? Or an adult adviser who has been charged with putting your school's wellness policies into action?
Students Taking Charge is about high schol students putting their passion for eating right, being active, and living healthy into making their school a healthier place for everyone. With Students Taking Charge, youth get connected to a national movement to mobilize, organize, and speak out for healthy and active schools in every state.
Students Taking Charge is a place where students can:
- Develop leadership and advocacy skills
- Gain knowledge about school health issues
- Educate school leaders, media, and the general public about important issues
- Make new friends and provide peer-to-peer education
- Share their creativity, ideas, and talents
- And have fun!

Steal These Ideas
Brainstorming as a school
Sometimes a group of 6 or 8 students can have hard time deciding how to make their school a healthier place. While surveys, interviews, and focus groups can all help, one school in Kansas decided to bring their whole student body together for two Students Taking Charge forums.
Seeing is believing
Are you getting a lot of resistance from your principal or school nutrition director? Does it seem like you're just not speaking their language? Or do they not understand what your changes will really look like? Find out how Northampton High School took their school leaders to visit another high school that has already put their ideas into action!
