Don’t believe everything you read… Write a new headline!

If you believe the headlines, most high school students are falling behind in school, texting while driving, zoning out on computers, and hitting the fast food drive thru on a daily basis. They don’t care what happens in the real world, in their schools and communities. It’s true that there are some students like this--and a lot of adults, too!--but there’s a different story, one that doesn’t make the headlines…

We had a great response this summer to our Students Taking Charge Video Contest! Action for Healthy Kids received 18 videos from students in 12 states—from West Virginia to Missouri to North Carolina to Michigan—showing us the students, teachers, groups, activities, or classes that make each school a healthy place to learn. Voting was intense as 577 students and their families joined out online Students Taking Charge Cause and cast their votes on our Facebook page for their favorite video. But the real surprise was who won!
