Steal This Idea

Brainstorming as a school

Sep 15, 2009 by Angela Forfia

Students at Pittsburg High School (Pittsburg, KS) decided that they needed more involvement to improve their school.  Working with their principal, and with Kansas Action for Healthy Kids, they organized two youth fourms--one for freshmen and sophomores and one for juniors and seniors.  They wanted to make sure that they heard from every student at the school!  After the prinicipal kicked things off, the students broke up into smaller groups where they could dicuss school wellness with a facilitator from the local college.  Then the schools four Students Taking Charge Teams talked about the results from their school-wide survey and what they had already accomplished in the school.  In just one school day, this Students Taking Charge group allowed all students to share their ideas and to contribute their energy for making a healthier school for everyone.
